Olsen twins are legit

These two may have made their start on the set of the cheesy show, Full House, but they have certainly proved to be on the cutting edge when it comes to fashion trends. They always seem to be one step ahead and have an incredible eye for items that are just plain stylish. It may have seemed at first that they were wannabe celebrities who loved clothes and assumed that this entitled them to their own fashion line. But the twins set out on a mission that was simply to create, “the perfect t-shirt,” according to www.therow.com. They have since expanded to create a line that ranges from tailored pants to evening gowns, all done in exceptional fabrics and with insane attention to detail. The Fall 2011 show has once again proven that they are no joke in the industry. They have rich furs and feminine tailoring in neutral and mustard colors that are right on trend for fall. Ultimately, they told a story of a fashionable girl who can wear a lady-like dress or menswear inspired trousers and be fabulous and sexy either way.

Their lower-end line, Elizabeth and James was launched in May of 2008 and it has also proved to be a very lucrative endeavor. Their clothes work because of the attention to detail in the draping of flowing blouses, to the quality of fabric used. I think it’s safe to say that they have earned their names in the fashion industry beyond their street style, which is still enviable none the less. It’s not easy to eliminate the celebrity that comes in front of designer, but Mary Kate and Ashley have certainly done so.

I have to admit I’m a little obsessed with Emma. She’s worked her magic with the Harry Potter films and now she’s using it in the fashion industry, Burberry bought in to her and her brother, who represented their fall 2009 campaign. Rumor has it she may be starting her own line? I would like to see what she can do, but it’s difficult to get past being a celeb-gone-fashion-designer-gone-wrong.

Year Nouveau

As we ring in the new year we can begin to look forward to the sheer, simplicity of Spring ‘11. Designers set the tone for this spring to be minimally chic, without fear of color. Marc Jacobs brought it back to the ’70s and others like Proenza Schouler, Prada and Jil Sander took us into the future of minimalism.

Favs.

But, right now I’m obsessed with thigh-high boots, my Alexander Wang T skirt, and faux fur vests. I’m pushin’ through the last weeks of winter wearing layers of cropped crew neck sweaters, black jeggings from William Rast and victorian style booties. And keeping it all warm in my vintage white fur coat. Yes, love.
